2023 New York Life Day of Learning Recap Honoring Children’s Grief Awareness Month

As part of the New York Life Foundation’s commitment to increasing awareness, access, and resources for bereaved children, on November 1, 2023, New York Life Foundation convened grief experts, educators, and administrative professionals for our annual Day of Learning. We hosted a series of panels with industry experts to share the latest data, best practices, stories, and resources. This event focused on the specific need for bereavement support in school communities as everyone can play a critical role in supporting students through grief.

As part of the day, we recognized the 10th anniversary of the Coalition to Support Grieving Students. This collaboration of the ten leading school professional associations, gathered by the New York Life Foundation and the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement, has been monumental in the creation and dissemination of resources for adults supporting children through grief. Many of the founding members spoke about their work on this coalition during the Day of Learning. Other speakers included the National Alliance for Children’s Grief (NACG), Partnership for After School Education (PASE), Uplift Center for Grieving Children, Park Nicollet Foundation, Children’s Bereavement Center and our keynote speaker, Chancellor David C. Banks of the New York City Public Schools.
