New York Life Foundation Increases Giving to Nonprofits In 2014

Ten Percent Rise Represents Fourth Consecutive Year of Expanded Giving

NEW YORK, January 6, 2014 — The New York Life Foundation announced today an increase in its 2014 charitable giving budget to $16 million, a ten percent increase over last year’s budget of $14.5 million. The funding will support programs in the Foundation’s focus of “Nurturing the Children,” particularly in the areas of educational enhancement and childhood bereavement. This is the fourth consecutive year the Foundation’s budget has increased.

“Our continued increase in funding directly results in grants for more children who need them most. We are pleased that in 2014 we will provide additional support to our nonprofit partners who positively impact young people in the communities where our customers, agents and employees live and work,” said Heather Nesle, president of the New York Life Foundation.

Since 2008 when the Foundation expanded its focus to include childhood bereavement, it has provided more than $20 million to nonprofits that provide bereavement support and created a nationally recognized resource site, www.achildingrief.com. In addition, the Foundation has been the driving force behind three groundbreaking surveys researching the needs and effects of the death of a loved one on survivors and caregivers including parents who lost a spouse or partner, bereaved children, and teachers handling grieving students.

Now in its 35th year, the New York Life Foundation has awarded more than $180 million in charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations across the country that are dedicated to improving the lives of others, particularly disadvantaged young people.
