In our continuous effort to serve the Asian-Indian community in the United States, we are proud to further our “Bharat Yatra – A Journey to India” initiative for the seventh straight year. This year we have asked our participants to describe, in less than 500 words, a brief essay on the steps that they believe should be taken to alleviate poverty in India.
After receiving an overwhelming response with articulate and thoughtful essays from teens across the United States, our panel of judges has chosen eight promising finalists. The eight finalists along with eight other participants from “Dil Se Foundation”, an offshoot organization from our previous Bharat Yatra initiative, will get a unique opportunity to visit Uttarakhand, India.
The trip will not only enable the participants to explore the rich cultural diversity and unity of India but will give them a hands-on experience in working closely with the local community as the trip also includes working at a week-long medical camp.
The group is leaving from New York on the July 3, 2009. The participants are led by two of New York Life’s Asian-Indian Market Unit managers, Mr. Ashwin K. Verma (CVP-Cultural Market Media Manager) & Mr. Srinivas R. Ranga (AVP-Market Management). Under their able guidance and experience the group will spend two weeks in India visiting different places of attraction and learning about India’s culture and heritage.
We strongly believe that in our earnest effort to help these promising teens to connect with their distant motherland, they will surely have an underlying impact on their lives. We hope that they will not forget what a glorious and fascinating experience India has offered them during their short but important trip and what they can offer to India in times to come. |
