NEW YORK, N.Y., April 29, 2003 New York Life Insurance Company announced today that Michael E. Sproule has been elected an executive vice president at the company. He will continue his role as the chief financial officer, a position to which he was appointed last year. Mr. Sproule is responsible for the Controller's Office, Mergers and Acquisitions, Financial Analysis, Risk Management, Tax, and Treasury Department functions, as well as the Office of the Chief Actuary.
Mr. Sproule joined New York Life in 1999 as senior vice president with responsibility for the Mergers and Acquisitions area of the company. Previously, Mr. Sproule served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of AmerUs Group. In addition to consulting experience with Tillinghast, he spent 17 years at MetLife in a variety of positions in the individual, group, pensions and property casualty businesses.
Originally from Toronto, Canada, Mr. Sproule earned his bachelor's degree in math and physics and holds his MBA degree in finance and marketing from the University of Toronto. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Mr. Sproule and his wife, Doreen, reside in Connecticut, with their three sons.
