Contract Renewal Result of Superb Products, Customer Service

NEW YORK, N.Y., May 12, 2003 — New York Life Insurance Company and AARP today announced that they have extended their agreement through 2011 for New York Life to serve as the exclusive provider of life insurance products to the AARP membership.

"Our members' response to the New York Life program has been tremendous," said Bill Farris, vice president of Financial Products and Services for AARP Services, Inc. "New York Life has done an outstanding job of developing a quality portfolio of life insurance products and providing exceptional customer service for our members. New York Life's financial strength and commitment to its customers were important reasons why AARP selected the insurance leader in 1994. These factors remain key drivers in our decision to extend our relationship."

"New York Life is very proud to be affiliated with AARP and combine the power of our brands to offer a top-notch life insurance program to the senior market," said Sy Sternberg, chairman and chief executive officer of New York Life. "AARP is a highly regarded organization and a trustworthy advocate for this important, and growing, segment of the American population. Both organizations take pride in our commitment to serving our constituencies when they need us most. Together we are a winning combination."

According to Thomas Kelly, senior vice president of New York Life's AARP Operation, "New York Life will continue to offer professional services and life insurance products with competitive rates and special product features tailored to meet the needs of AARP members. With our experience providing life insurance to AARP members for the past nine years, we are extremely well positioned to take the program to an even higher level with new products and features that will benefit AARP members."

AARP is the nation's leading organization for people 50 and older. It serves their needs and interests through legislative advocacy, research, informative programs and community services provided by a network of local chapters and experienced volunteers throughout the country. The organization also offers members a wide range of special benefits, including AARP The Magazine and the AARP Bulletin.

New York Life Insurance Company, a Fortune 100 company, is the largest mutual life insurance company in the United States and one of the largest life insurers in the world. Founded in 1845 and headquartered in New York City, New York Life and its affiliates offer life insurance, annuities and long-term care insurance.
