New York Life Unveils Documentary Highlighting "Bharat Yatra III" Visit to India

NEW YORK, NY, June 16, 2003 — New York Life Insurance Company recently unveiled a documentary created to capture highlights of a trip to India by winners of the "Bharat Yatra III" national essay competition for students. This twenty-six minute video captures the group's visits to various institutions serving the deprived and the physically challenged and high-level meetings with President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Governor of West Bengal Viren Shah and former president Ramaswamy Venkataraman. The trip was designed to teach the contest winners about the economy, education, culture, environment and other important aspects of daily life in India.

"We at New York Life are proud of our close connection to the Asian-Indian community and are glad to create the opportunity for young people to visit India and deepen their bond with its culture," said Ashwin Verma, corporate vice president, New York Life. "The documentary depicts an exciting visit filled with the sights and sounds that make India special, as well as meaningful experiences and the formation of new friendships that these students will cherish forever."

This year's essay contest winners are Vibin Chowallur, Bellmore, NY, Sneha Mehta, Fort Lee, NJ, Sergio Mukherjee, Port Washington, NY, Vasu Birju Pathak, Edison, NJ, Kajal Patel, Lansdale, PA, Neelja Kumar, Bayside, NY, Chaya Venkatesh, Cupertino, CA and Priya Agrawal, Ann Arbor, MI. The group visited West Bengal and New Delhi from December 27, 2002 to January 10, 2003.

"The documentary will enable thousands of Asian-Indian children in the United States to see India through the eyes of these talented students," said Verma.
