New York Life Hosts Reception for CUNY Honors College Students

September 18, 2003 - New York Life Insurance Company recently hosted a luncheon for City University of New York (CUNY) Honors College students at the company's Home Office in Manhattan. The New York Life Foundation donated $500,000 to support the four-year participation of 25 high-achieving minority students in the Honors College's University Scholars Program. One of the students, Adeola Roluga, poses in a photo with Dr. Matthew Goldstein (left), chancellor of CUNY, Sy Sternberg (second from right), chairman and chief executive officer of New York Life and chairman of the New York Life Foundation, and Louise Mirrer (far right), vice chancellor of CUNY.

The Honors College's University Scholars Program supports academically talented students in an intensive undergraduate experience that features full tuition support, unique faculty-designed curricula combining hands-on experiences with traditional scholarly study, access to technology and its applications (including a free laptop computer), mentors and internships, and an academic expense account to support educationally enriching experiences.

Established in 1979 by the New York Life Insurance Company, the New York Life Foundation (www.newyorklifefoundation.org This link will open an external site in a new browser. ) is the major vehicle through which the company channels contributions to national and local non-profit organizations. Through its Nurturing the Children initiative, the Foundation supports organizations, programs and services that target young people, particularly in the areas of mentoring, safe places to learn and grow, and educational enhancement opportunities. Through Volunteers for LIFE, its national community involvement initiative, New York Life also encourages volunteer participation by its employees, agents, and retirees.
