Life Insurance Industry Veteran Appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
NEW YORK, N.Y., September 25, 2003 — Joseph A. Gilmour has joined New York Life International (NYLI), the overseas arm of New York Life Insurance Company, as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Mr. Gilmour will be based in New York and will report to Gary Benanav, the chief executive officer for New York Life International and the vice-chairman for New York Life.
Mr. Gilmour has nearly 25 years of experience in the life insurance industry and joins NYLI from Canada Life, where he has worked for the majority of his career. Most recently, Mr. Gilmour spent five years as senior vice president of the International and Reinsurance Division. In that role, he was responsible for the management and development of Canada Life's international holdings and reinsurance operations.
On his new appointment, Mr. Gilmour said, "I am extremely pleased to join New York Life International, which has enjoyed excellent sales growth and recently celebrated the achievement of profitability a full year ahead of schedule. This is a significant time for the company and the economies it operates in across Asia and Latin America, and I look forward to working with Gary and his team through the company's next phase of development."
Mr. Gilmour's career with Canada Life also included senior roles in group life insurance and pension, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, and product development.

Mr. Gilmour is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries (F.S.A.) and a graduate of the University of Toronto, Ontario.
