Asian Elephant

More than 100,000 Asian Elephants may have existed at the start of the 20th Century. This magnificent animal is now threatened by extinction with only about 25,000 to 35,000 left in the wild. India is home to about 60% of the remaining Asian Elephant population, making their survival in India critical to the survival of the entire species. Growing human population and habitat fragmentation are major threats to the Elephant’s survival.
