Indian Peacock

The handsome Peacock is a resident breeder in the Indian subcontinent. It is designated as the national bird of India. However, the bird is being pushed to the brink of extinction. Poaching, indiscriminate use of pesticides and lax laws to nab those who kill peacocks for their feathers, all add up to the endangered Indian Peafowl population.

July 4 – Independence Day.
July 18 – Guru Poornima.
