 New York Life Elects Susan Thrope Corporate Secretary
 
 
 

NEW YORK, May 3, 2004 — New York Life Insurance Company announced today that Senior Vice President Susan Greenberg Thrope has been elected by the board of directors to the position of corporate secretary. She continues as a senior vice president and a deputy general counsel and assumes responsibility for the Office of the Secretary. Ms. Thrope continues to report to Senior Vice President and General Counsel Sheila Davidson.

Chairman Sy Sternberg said, "Susan has done an outstanding job for many years advising senior management on the legal issues confronting the Company. The depth and breadth of her experience will ensure the continued successful implementation of our commitment to the vital area of corporate governance. I'm pleased that Susan has accepted this challenging new role."

Ms. Thrope joined New York Life in 1982 as an attorney in OGC. She progressed through a series of promotions, gaining expertise in most legal issues affecting the company, including the areas of employment, agent and employee benefits, real estate, investments, antitrust, and mergers and acquisitions. In January 2004, Ms. Thrope joined the company's Management Advisory Council, which advises senior management on all aspects of the company's operations.

Ms. Thrope received her B.A. from Boston University, her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, a Master of Laws degree from New York University and her M.B.A. from Columbia University. She resides in Chappaqua, New York with her husband Michael, and their two children.
