Industry Veteran is Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer

NEW YORK, N.Y., October 12, 2004 — New York Life Insurance Company announced today that Sandra Bograd has joined New York Life International, the company's overseas arm as vice president and chief compliance officer. She reports to Richard E. Smith, senior vice president and general counsel.

Ms. Bograd will be responsible for developing and overseeing compliance and corporate governance programs for New York Life International and for the company's local operations in nine international markets. She replaces Cordelia Yoon who has been appointed to the position of deputy general counsel.

Before joining New York Life Ms. Bograd worked with AIG, where she was responsible for developing the company's compliance programs around a number of anti-corruption and Patriot Act issues. Previously she worked as an outside counsel for corporate clients, serving both as a litigator and as an internal investigator. Sandra began her legal career as a prosecutor in the Essex County prosecutor's office in New Jersey.

Ms. Bograd has worked as an adjunct professor at several graduate schools in the New York area. She is a member of the Board of Trustees, Legal Services Foundation, Essex County Bar Association and also the International Security Committee of the New York City Bar Association. She is also a founding member of the Hands Across The World Committee of Save The Children International. She received her B.A. from Rutgers University in 1980 and her J.D. from Vermont Law School in 1983.
