NEW YORK, N.Y., August 3, 2006 — New York Life Foundation held a reception to mark the third year of a three-year, $586,850 grant to the Partnership for After School Education’s (PASE) Summer Learning Initiative. In attendance were PASE representatives, staff from 30 agencies participating in the grant this summer and college interns who work with students to help them maintain their education level during the summer months. The Summer Learning Initiative grant has helped 70 agencies bolster literacy initiatives in their summer programs. As many as 7,000 children from low-income families will benefit from this program.

The New York Life Foundation is the major vehicle through which New York Life Insurance Company channels contributions to national and local nonprofit organizations. Through its Nurturing the Children initiative, the Foundation supports organizations, programs and services that target young people, particularly in the areas of mentoring, safe places to learn and grow, and educational enhancement opportunities.
