NEW YORK, N.Y., September 25, 2006 — New York Life Insurance Company today announced that Julie Herwig has joined the company as Assistant Vice President, Legislative Affairs, in New York Life's Washington, D.C. office. She will be joining the Washington, DC Federal Affairs lobbying team of First Vice President Bill Mattox and Vice President Ron Lefrancois.
Ms. Herwig joins New York Life from the U.S. House of Representatives, Ways and Means Committee, where as trade counsel she staffed members of Congress on U.S. trade negotiations and other trade issues. Prior to working for the Ways and Means Committee, she worked for Congressman Bob Matsui (D-CA) as Tax and Trade Counsel, Hogan & Hartson, LLP as a practicing attorney and Senator Bob Kerrey (D-NE) as a Legislative Assistant.
Ms. Herwig earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Virginia, her Masters in Public Administration from Princeton University and Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law.
She resides in Edgewater, Maryland with her husband Tim.
