Four Westchester County Nonprofits Receive Funding As Part Of $250,000 Commitment For 2006

NEW YORK, N.Y., November 21, 2006 – The New York Life Foundation recently announced grants totaling $76,600 to four Westchester County nonprofits. These grants are part of the Foundation’s 2006 commitment of $250,000 to support programs aimed at children throughout Westchester County. The grants bring New York Life Foundation’s total paid in 2006 to $250,900, or $900 over the $250,000 goal. The nonprofits receiving funding are: Family Service Society of Yonkers, Historic Hudson Valley, RSHM Life Center and The Volunteer Center.

“We are very proud to support the important work of these Westchester-based nonprofits,” said Peter Bushyeager, president of the New York Life Foundation. “They are enriching the lives of children throughout the county and helping them grow into productive adults.”

The grant recipients are as follows:

  • Family Service Society of Yonkers — $20,000 to increase the hours and program services of the Kinship Technology Center and to introduce a new component of their youth program that addresses the growing gang problem;
  • Historic Hudson Valley — $21,000 to expand the after-school program at Historic Hudson Valley’s Philipsburg Manor site;
  • RSHM Life Center — $13,000 to provide funding for part-time reading specialists and educational supplies for their after-school program, and educational field trips for the summer camp program;
  • The Volunteer Center — $22,600 for the New York Life Youth Volunteer Awards program and a new program called the New York Life Youth Volunteer Initiative.

The New York Life Foundation is the major vehicle through which New York Life Insurance Company channels contributions to national and local nonprofit organizations. Through its Nurturing the Children initiative, the Foundation supports organizations, programs and services that target young people, particularly in the areas of mentoring, safe places to learn and grow, and educational enhancement opportunities.
