 New York Life Announces Executive Promotions
 
 
 

NEW YORK, N.Y., December 18, 2006 — New York Life Insurance Company announced today three recent promotions to vice president.

Michael J. Gordon has been promoted to vice president in the Agency Department, reporting to Senior Vice President Gerard Rocchi. Mr. Gordon is now responsible for overseeing the Market Development & Agent Training Group. Additionally, he also helps develop retirement income initiatives, including Guaranteed Lifetime Income product distribution relationships with third parties.

Mr. Gordon began his career in 1996 with New York Life as an associate trainee, leaving in 1998 as a market management associate. He rejoined the company in 2001 as assistant vice president of Marketing Services in the Corporate Internet Department. Mr. Gordon was promoted to corporate vice president in 2002, and in 2005 joined the Individual Annuity Department, where he was responsible for non-traditional annuity distribution and sales tool development. In January of 2006, Mr. Gordon joined the Agency Department to manage the department’s Retirement Income unit.

Prior to rejoining New York Life, Mr. Gordon spent a year as president and CEO of a private venture, Kopia, LLC. He also spent two years with Chase Manhattan Corp., Chase Insurance Group where he was vice president of internet strategy and development.

Mr. Gordon received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colgate University. He currently resides in New York City, with his wife Lin.

Steven M. Jacobsberg has been promoted to vice president in the Individual Annuity Department, and is now responsible for systems operations, project management, and testing. He will continue reporting to Vice President Bill Formon.

Mr. Jacobsberg joined the company as a programmer trainee in the Electronics Department in 1973. He was promoted to Assistant Vice President in the Corporate Information Department in 1985, then promoted to corporate vice president in 1990. In 2001, Mr. Jacobsberg transferred to the Individual Annuity Department.

Mr. Jacobsberg received a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University. He currently resides in Port Washington, New York with his wife, Terry, and their two children.

Maximo C. Muñiz, Jr., has been promoted to vice president in the Sales and Marketing Support Group within the Agency Department, reporting to Vice President Fred DeFilippo.

Mr. Muñiz is now responsible for heading up the newly formed Prospecting and Relationship Management Unit that is part of the Sales and Marketing Support Group, focusing on development and distribution of prospecting and relationship management support for agents and managers.

Mr. Muñiz joined the company in 1978 at the Austin General Office as an agent and attained life member status of the Million Dollar Round Table before becoming a sales manager of that office in 1987. In 1990, he transferred to New York Life’s home office as corporate vice president and product manager in the Individual Life Department. In 1992, he was transferred to the Marketing Department to start up New York Life’s cultural markets initiative. In 2002, Mr. Muñiz was transferred to the Agency Recruiting and Retention Group, overseeing several programs, including business continuation and succession, corporate agent contract relationships and strategic alliances.

Mr. Muñiz received a Chartered Life Underwriter designation in 1986, and Chartered Financial Consultant designation in 1987. He currently resides in Milford, Conn., with his wife, Jennifer.
