 New York Life Announces Executive Promotions in the Office of General Counsel
 
 
 

NEW YORK, N.Y., May 29, 2007 – New York Life Insurance Company announced today that Sara Badler has been promoted to senior vice president and deputy general counsel and Richard Taigue has been promoted to first vice president and deputy general counsel in the Office of the General Counsel. Both executives report to Senior Vice President and General Counsel Thomas English.

Ms. Badler is responsible for managing the unit within the Office of General Counsel which provides legal advice to the Company’s life insurance, annuity, long term care and group operations, its agency department and to the Company’s retail broker-dealer. She is also responsible for the unit which provides legal support to the Office of the Chief Investment Officer and on M&A activity. Ms. Badler re-joined New York Life in 2004 as vice president and associate general counsel. In 2006, she was promoted to first vice president and deputy general counsel.

Prior to joining New York Life, Ms. Badler worked for Morgan Stanley, where she was executive director responsible for all legal work associated with their U.S. equity mutual funds. She also has previous experience with Van Kampen Investments, Inc., Oppenheimer Management Corporation and Damson Oil Corporation, as well as prior service with New York Life from 1994-1999 in the asset management unit of the Office of the General Counsel.

Ms. Badler received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University, a Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law and a Master of Science degree from Bank Street College of Education. She resides in New York City.

Mr. Taigue is now responsible for managing several areas within the Office of General Counsel, including subsidiary corporate governance and oversight of the legal operations for New York Life’s subsidiaries. He is also responsible for managing the intellectual property, commercial contracts and legal risk assessment units of the Office of the General Counsel.

Mr. Taigue joined New York Life as assistant general counsel in 1990, was promoted to associate general counsel in 1992, elected vice president and associate general counsel in 1995, and became vice president and deputy general counsel in 2004. Prior to joining New York Life, Mr. Taigue worked for five years at a large New York City law firm and was a partner in his own firm for several years.

Mr. Taigue received a Bachelor of Arts degree from City College of New York, and a Juris Doctorate degree from St. John’s University School of Law. He resides in Lynbrook, NY.

In addition, Karen Lamp has been promoted to vice president and associate general counsel in the Office of the General Counsel, reporting to Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel Michael DeMicco.

Ms. Lamp is now responsible for helping manage the litigation unit of the Office of General Counsel, providing counsel and supervising junior litigator on the company’s most significant cases. Ms. Lamp joined the company in 1991 as assistant general counsel and was promoted to associate general counsel in 1994. Prior to joining New York Life, Ms. Lamp was associate counsel in litigation at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. She began her legal career in 1983 at Gamble, Riepe, Webster, Davis & Green in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ms. Lamp received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa, and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She resides in New York City.
