NEW YORK, N.Y., January 31, 2008 — For the fourth year in a row, New York Life Insurance Company awarded scholarships to college students who achieve academic success and play an active role in their communities. The Cirilo A. McSween — New York Life — Rainbow/PUSH Excel Scholarship awards are given in honor of New York Life’s first African-American agent, who started working for the company over 50 years ago. Besides being a member of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition's board of directors, Mr. McSween is also president of Cirilo's Inc., a renowned civil rights activist who worked closely with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and was national treasurer of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference during the time Dr. King was president of the organization. Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr. presented the awards to the scholars at a luncheon recently.
