New York Life Insurance Company Volunteers Technology Expertise in Support of This New Foundation Gift

NEW YORK, N.Y., FEBRUARY 7, 2008 – Coro New York Leadership announced today that it has received a three-year, $326,010 grant from the New York Life Foundation to support the development of civic leadership programs for New York City youth and adults. Coro is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to strengthen the democratic process by preparing youth for public service through its various programs. The funding supports Coro’s capacity- building campaign, including application and infrastructure improvement projects.

In addition, New York Life Insurance Company’s Corporate Information Department (CID) is providing technology expertise to assist Coro in adopting more sophisticated technology tools that will improve communication with their constituents. CID also hosted a Coro Fellow for a month-long internship to assist in the growth of his skills as an emerging leader.

“This generous grant from the New York Life Foundation will help improve the information channels and programming that prepare students for future civic leadership,” said Michael Hirschhorn, executive director, Coro. “This grant is uniquely satisfying because not only did New York Life provide the vital funding for this program, it is also volunteering their technical expertise to ensure Coro’s success.”

“We are proud to fund an organization that trains young people to develop their civic leadership skills, which can effect big change in our communities,” said Christine Park, president of the New York Life Foundation. “In addition, New York Life’s Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President, Eileen Slevin, has volunteered consultation services to Coro, further solidifying New York Life’s commitment.”

The improvement projects supported by New York Life Foundation’s funding include:

  • A new constituent management system that will track information on participants, alumni, funders and others for use in program delivery and fund-raising;
  • An update of Coro’s Website;
  • Replacement of existing accounting software; and
  • An upgrade of Coro’s computer network and equipment

The Coro Fellows Program provides practical, graduate-level training in leadership and public affairs, including month-long internships in the corporate, government, labor, and nonprofit sector. New York Life’s CID Communications Team hosted Fellow Fred Jones, Jr., a graduate student who was responsible for researching industry-specific communications plans and helped prepare the 2008 communications and marketing plan.

CID’s assistance will continue for the duration of the grant and includes helping to select, purchase and install the new constituent management system, assess the usability of Coro’s current Website and recommend content and navigation changes.
