 New York Life Names Four College Students as College Agent Intern Program Summer Sales Contest Winners

Students Recognized For Sales Achievements As They Explore Careers as Life Insurance Agents

NEW YORK, N.Y., November 11, 2008 — New York Life Insurance Company recently announced the winners of the company’s annual College Agent Intern program summer sales contest. The annual contest recognizes four of the Company’s college agents who have submitted the highest number of new applications for the purchase of an insurance product during the summer of 2008 from across the country. The program began 10 years ago and has grown in popularity each year.

“New York Life is proud to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this successful program. These four college agents have effectively balanced their class work as they extended their learning beyond the classroom,” said Kirsten McKaskle, Assistant Vice President, College Recruiting and Young Professionals Market, Agency Department, New York Life. “By taking advantage of this extraordinary ‘hands-on’ opportunity to explore a career as a life insurance agent while still in school, they get a head start on building their own financial services practice and developing the skills necessary to have a successful and lifelong career with New York Life.”

The College Agent Intern Program summer sales contest winners are:

The Pacific Zone is the home of two winners this year and the home of our National Winner. The National Winner, Yerania Espindola, is a junior attending Heritage University in Toppenish, Washington and her hometown is Sunnyside, Washington. As a National winner, Yerania submitted the highest number of life insurance product applications of all college agents across the U.S. Ms. Espindola’s recruiter is Fred Nyberg, partner, Eastern Washington General Office, New York Life Insurance Company;

Our second winner in the Pacific Zone is Gregory Piercy, a senior attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and his hometown is Provo, Utah. Mr. Piercy’s recruiter is Paul Hales, partner, Utah General Office, New York Life Insurance Company;

The West Central Zone winner, Levi Salmans, is a senior attending Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas and his hometown is Hanston, Kansas. Mr. Salman’s recruiter is Christopher Jacoby, partner, Kansas General Office, New York Life Insurance Company;

The Northeast Zone winner, Jeffrey Lison is a senior attending Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, New Hampshire and his hometown is Salem, New Hampshire. Mr. Lison’s recruiter is Jason DeMarzo, partner, Boston General Office, New York Life Insurance Company.

This year, in recognition of the 10th Anniversary of the College Agent Intern Program, each of the winners will be invited to celebrate their achievement with a trip to New York Life’s headquarters in New York City in January 2009. The winners will meet with the Agency Department’s senior management team, receive a special tour of the historic headquarters building, and have the opportunity to meet many of the people who work behind the scenes in New York Life’s home office.

New York Life’s College Agent Intern Program was launched nationwide in 1998. Both undergraduate students and graduate students can apply. Students who are accepted obtain the appropriate state required life/health insurance license and begin working with clients on a part-time basis. They receive weekly performance reviews and guidance from their recruiter and one-on-one training with agent mentors while they undergo formalized classroom training. Unlike a traditional summer intern program, students in the College Agent Intern Program are able to continue as interns as long as they are attending school full-time, often spending two years in the program.
