Give for Good
Our Give for Good initiatives include our Give for Good Campaign, Matching Gift Program and Disaster Relief Program. Together these programs provide platforms for the generosity of our employees and agents across the country.
The collective generosity of agents and employees was never more evident than during a six–week period in late 2012, when everyone banded together to give nearly $5 million to those in need.
Such an effort reinforced that of all of our company’s values, humanity remains at the core of who we are.
Along with the Foundation’s grantmaking, the work of Corporate Responsibility is essential in New York Life’s philanthropic efforts. Year after year three programs in particular stand out: the annual Give for Good giving campaign, our year-round matching gift program and our disaster matching gift program.
Give for Good Giving Campaign
The Foundation facilitates employees’ and agents’ charitable giving to most U.S.-based nonprofit organizations. Since 1983, thousands of New York Life people have pledged millions of dollars to the local charities of their choice. Through this annual giving campaign we raised $3.4 million last year, exceeding our initial goal of $3 million and raising $700,000 more than we did in 2011.
Matching Gift Program
The Foundation matches the gifts of employees, agents and retirees to accredited educational institutions up to $3,000 and $5,000 for directors. From kindergarten through college, students all across the country have benefited from our matching gifts.
Disaster Relief Program
When natural disasters strike, New York Life – and our people – pitch in. The Company fully matches employees’ and agents’ donations to the American Red Cross and other designated aid organizations in extraordinary cases of calamity. Over 4,000 employees and agents gave more than $150,000 to the Disaster Relief Fund to support the American Red Cross and Feeding America for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. In recognition of the significant impact that Hurricane Sandy had on approximately 100 of our own employees, they also gave over $40,000 to the New York Life Family Disaster Assistance Fund.
