Volunteers for Good

Our agents and employees volunteer thousands of hours each year to help others in need. These efforts are coordinated by the Corporate Responsibility Department through three main programs: our year-round Volunteers for Good program and two annual initiatives—a Month of Service and the Season of Giving.

Each year we develop and help coordinate hundreds of volunteer projects that offer our employees, agents, and retirees an opportunity to get involved and make a difference in their communities. For example, during 2012’s Season of Giving campaign, teams of employees helped families affected by Hurricane Sandy by running coat, toy and gift card drives across the country. In particular, our “Adopt-a-Family” program received commitments from groups and individuals to help many families from Queens and Staten Island, many of whom lost their homes.

Our volunteer program unifies and inspires our agents and employees to take action and engage with local community service initiatives throughout the country.

We collaborate with hundreds of charitable organizations and help coordinate hundreds of volunteer projects every year to address community needs across the country.

Team Grants

Through our Volunteers for Good initiative we give grants that support the volunteer efforts of teams of New York Life people. Projects like walk-a-thons, park beautifications, soup kitchens and other group projects can receive up to $10,000 for their nonprofit partner.

Individual Grants

Likewise, we give grants that support a variety of local nonprofit organizations where New York Life agents and employees volunteer on a regular basis. Grants are $500 to $1,000.

Month of Service

Striving to enhance our commitment to Nurturing the Children, the Corporate Responsibility Department supports several initiatives by agents and employees that focus on helping grieving children and families.

For example, each September, New York Life agents and employees volunteer at bereavement camps, make comfort items for grieving children, and raise funds for bereavement service providers in local communities, building on our philanthropic efforts.

Season of Giving

Each holiday season, employees participate in programs such as "adopting" senior citizens and families living in public housing. They provide gifts and help with holiday celebrations, among many other efforts.
