New York Life International Co-Hosts Latin American Roundtable on Insurance

NEW YORK, N.Y., March 8, 2001 — New York Life International, the overseas arm of New York Life Insurance Company, will co-sponsor the International Insurance Council's Latin American Roundtable on insurance in Miami, Florida on March 8 and 9.

The event brings together insurance executives and experts in a roundtable with regulators and other officials to discuss issues facing the insurance industry in Latin America. The program will include special workshops on current developments in pensions, health care and fraud.

"This event is very important to New York Life as we work toward becoming a leading player in the Latin American market," said Cynthia Y. Valko, executive vice president, New York Life International, and the company's chief executive officer for Latin America. "Our purchase of Seguros Monterrey in Mexico a year ago has increased our profile in that country significantly; and in Argentina, where we rank in the top three in market share, our operations continue to grow rapidly."

Ms. Valko is one of the featured speakers at the conference, where she will moderate a panel on pensions issues. New York Life will also be represented by Alfonso Castro Toledo, who is a board member of Seguros Monterrey New York Life and advisor on Latin America for New York Life International. Mr. Castro will be moderating the roundtable as Chairman of the Interamerican Federation of Insurance Companies (FIDES).
