Scholarships For Summer Fellows Part Of Grant To Fund 13 Students In 2009

Washington, D.C., July 30, 2009 – Earlier this year, The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars announced that a $45,000 grant from the New York Life Foundation would support scholarships for up to 13 college and university students in elite, semester-long internships. Eight scholars have been named the summer Diversity Fellows, and are working at government agencies and private for-profit and nonprofit organizations based in Washington, D.C.

Missing from the photo are: Ms. Severine Ekwede from Bowie, MD, a student at The University of Maryland – Eastern Shore is interning at the Energy Efficiency Experts LLC; and Jeffrey Offomata from Englewood, a student at Delaware State University is interning at the Office of the Inspector General at the Smithsonian Institution.

Since 2002, the New York Life Foundation has given $345,000 to support scholarships for more than 80 of The Washington Center’s New York Life Foundation Diversity Scholars. Additional scholars will be announced in the fall.
