Thanks to the 1985 Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), you may still have coverage. If your spouse worked for a company that has a health plan covering 20 or more employees, the plan must continue to offer you and any dependents coverage for at least 18 months. Coverage can be stretched up to three years if you have dependent children.
Contact your spouse's employer to understand your health insurance coverage options. If your spouse received health insurance through their employer, and was employed at the time of death, by law you are eligible for COBRA coverage.
