Photo Caption: The Washington Center Names New York Life Foundation Diversity Scholarship Fellows

Washington, D.C., December 8, 2009 - Earlier this year, The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars announced that a $45,000 grant from the New York Life Foundation would support scholarships for 13 college and university students in elite, semester-long internships. The final four scholars for 2009 have been named and are working at government agencies and private for-profit and nonprofit organizations based in Washington, D.C.

Diversity Scholarship Fellows

Pictured from left to right are: Krystal Hope from Huntingdon, PA, a Business major at Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA, is interning at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Silver Springs, MD; Shenisa Clarke from Bronx, NY, an Economics Business major at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, is interning at the Financial Services Roundtable; Ashley Berecek from Warren, Ohio, an Accounting major at Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio is interning at the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States and, Juanita Smith from Felton, Delaware, an Accounting major at Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware, is interning at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs - Medical Center.

Since 2002, the New York Life Foundation has given $390,000 to support scholarships for more than 90 of The Washington Center's New York Life Foundation Diversity Scholars.
