Students Recognized for Sales Achievements as They Explore Careers as Life Insurance Agents
NEW YORK, N.Y., January 5, 2010 - New York Life Insurance Company recently announced the winners of the company's annual College Agent Intern contest, which recognizes the agent student interns who sold the most life insurance during their internships with the Company. The program began 11 years ago and is more popular each year.
"New York Life is proud of each of the winners - they set very high goals and successfully achieved them with unwavering determination. Each winner demonstrated the dedication and skill to juggle the demands of their college coursework with the commitment necessary to be successful in the life insurance business," said Kirsten McKaskle, assistant vice president, College Recruiting and Young Professionals Market, Agency Department, New York Life. "These students are making the most of a rarely offered opportunity to get a head start on a career and making a lasting impact on their clients' lives by helping them toward their financial goals."
In this program, the college agents are mentored by established New York Life agents and managers; encouraged to obtain their agent licenses; and are able to begin working with clients.
The College Agent Intern Program summer sales contest winners are:
- For the second year in a row, Yerania Espindola, from Sunnyside, Washington, a senior attending Heritage University in Toppenish, Washington, is the national winner for selling the most life insurance of all the college agents across the United States
- J. Richard Salinas from Corcoran, California, a senior at Fresno State in Fresno, California
- Dorothy Srun, from Prior Lake, Minnesota, a senior attending University
of Minnesota - Twin Cities.
- Jordan Schneider, from Tinton Falls, New Jersey, a graduate student at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- Blake Caudle, from Florence, South Carolina, a junior attending the University
of South Carolina in Columbia.
New York Life's College Agent Intern Program was launched nationwide in 1998. Both undergraduate students and graduate students can apply. Students who are accepted obtain the state- required life/health insurance license and begin working with clients on a part-time basis. They receive weekly performance reviews and guidance from their recruiter and one-on-one training with agent mentors while they undergo formalized classroom training. Unlike a traditional summer intern program, students in the College Agent Intern Program are able to continue as interns as long as they are attending school full-time, often spending two years in the program.
