NEW YORK, N.Y., September 17, 2009 - The New York Life Foundation announced today a $75,000 grant to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) to support the 2009-2010 Public Policy Fellowship Program. The nine-month Fellowship Program offers 20 recent college graduates of Hispanic descent from across the country the opportunity to gain real-world work experience at the national level in the public policy area of their choice. Fellows have the opportunity to work in such areas as international affairs, economic development, education policy, housing, or local government in Washington, D.C.

Twenty Fellows are selected annually, based on the quality of their applications and interview scores. The CHCI Fellowship Program offers Fellows:
- Work Experience - with a range of opportunities including jobs in congressional offices, federal agencies, Washington-based media, national advocacy organizations, and government-related institutions.
- Community Service - Fellows are required to engage in community service in identified areas of civic interest.
- Leadership Development - a once a week, culturally focused leadership training curriculum, and workshops and seminars designed around leadership development.
