Participants in the prestigious Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Internship Program were recognized at a reception held at New York Life Insurance Company on Friday, July 11, 2003. Two of this year's 39 selected interns, Jason Frazer of S. Ozone, NY (far right), and Brendan Redman of Brooklyn, NY (center right), pose with Michael A. Watson, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, New York Life (far left) and Kelly Owens, Director of Education and Outreach, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (center left).
The summer program allows African-American undergraduates to work on Capitol Hill with a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and participate in roundtable discussions with other members, federal government officials and public policy experts. Mr. Frazer is interning with Rep. Charles Rangel (D-15-NY). Mr. Redman is interning with Rep. Major Owens (D-11-NY).
The program is funded by a grant from the New York Life Foundation, the major vehicle through which New York Life Insurance Company channels contributions to nonprofit organizations. Through its Nurturing the Children initiative, the Foundation supports organizations, programs and services that target young people, particularly in the areas of educational enhancement, mentoring, and safe places to learn and grow.
