Case Development

Case Development services cases in the estate and business areas. Several levels of analysis are available, depending on the facts presented.

Heading this unit is Alan Cone, J.D, CLU, ChFC. After graduating magna cum laude from both undergraduate and law school, Alan served as a tax specialist in a large southwestern law firm. He has worked in advanced underwriting since 1978, and has broad experience in both business and estate strategies. Prior to joining The Nautilus Group, Alan headed the Advanced Underwriting Department for Canada Life's U.S. Division.

Innovations Officer, Steven Weinstein, J.D., LL.M., holds a bachelors degree from the University of Southern California, a law degree from Whittier College, and an L.L.M. in taxation from Southern Methodist University. In law school, Steven was managing editor of the law review and received the American Jurisprudence Award for Estate Planning. Prior to joining Nautilus in 1997, Steven's experience included IRS District Counsel, private tax litigation, and ERISA and employee benefits with the Dallas office of Ernst & Young.

Case Development Unit Manager, Matthew Pate, J.D., LL.M., joined The Nautilus Group in March of 2004 after receiving his LL.M. in Taxation from Southern Methodist University. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law, where he focused primarily on corporate and tax law. While in law school, he was executive editor of the Texas Review of Law and Politics and participated in the criminal defense clinic. He received his B.S. in Accounting, Finance, and International Business from Georgetown University where he graduated with honors. Matthew is a native of Texas, having grown up in El Paso.

Rick Holman, J.D., CFP®, CLU, came to the Nautilus Group from Genworth Financial, where he served as an Advanced Marketing Attorney. Previously, he spent seven years with Raymond James & Associates as a Financial Planning Consultant and an Advanced Case Design Specialist. Rick earned his undergraduate degree in Politics from the University of Miami, and his law degree from Florida State University.

Britney Zollinger, J.D., joined the Nautilus Group in April 2006. She received a B.S. in biological sciences from Southern Methodist University and a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law. While in law school, Britney served as a staff writer for the DePaul Journal of Health Law and as a law clerk for the Social Security Administration’s Office of General Counsel and the AIDS Legal Council of Chicago.

Zachary Threadgill, J.D., graduated Cum Laude with a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2003 and graduated with a J.D. from Southern Methodist University in 2006. In between semesters of law school Zachary finished the requirements to sit for the CPA exam. During his last year of law school Zachary co-founded and operated a real estate investment company.

Natalie B. Michalek, JD, CFP®, joined the Nautilus Group in 2007 after a 7 year career in financial planning, counseling high net worth executives. Her background includes risk management, investment management, executive benefits, estate planning and income tax; and her advice and articles have been featured in national media outlets. She received her BA from Cornell University, and JD from Baylor Law School. She is the current Pro Bono Director for the Dallas Fort Worth Financial Planning Association.

Anh Bishop, J.D., graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University and Cum Laude with a J.D. from Southern Methodist University. During law school, Anh clerked for the Texas General Land Office and Sky Chefs, Inc. She also served as Chief Counsel for the SMU Tax Clinic.

Kathryn Rodgers, J.D., LL.M, received her B.S. in Accounting from Louisiana State University and her J.D. from St. Mary's University. Following law school Kathryn received her LL.M in Taxation from Southern Methodist University. While completing her LL.M Kathryn worked as a manager at a local accounting firm.

Spencer D. Brown, J.D., received his B.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Texas at Austin and graduated Cum Laude with a J.D. from Southern Methodist University. While in law school, Spencer served as a staff writer for the SMU International Law Review and as a law clerk for a successful Dallas litigation firm. Previously, Spencer enjoyed a successful eight year career as a Product Manager with a Fortune 500 technology company.

Case Development Production Manager, Penny Allen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology at the Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. She joined Nautilus in February 2000, as a second career after working for the State of Oklahoma in the Social Work field for 30 years. Penny is responsible for the daily tracking and processing of cases.
