NEW YORK, N.Y., December 9, 2010 - New York Life Insurance Company and UConn Sports Marketing, the multimedia rights partner for the University of Connecticut Athletics and an IMG College property, today announced a season-long sponsorship of the University's men's and women's basketball programs.
The sponsorship includes a first-ever on court logo presence for the entire season and sponsorship of the game on December 21 at the XL Center when the UConn women will host Florida State. If the women's team remains undefeated in the run-up to that game, a win on December 21 will give the Huskies the all-time record for consecutive wins by a college basketball team. This past weekend, the UConn women recorded their 86th win over Sacred Heart, heading closer to the coveted 36-year old record, currently held by the storied UCLA men's basketball team that notched 88 consecutive wins from 1971-74.
Executive Vice President of U.S. Life and Agency Mark W. Pfaff said, "We are proud to support the UConn Huskies men's and women's basketball teams who are certainly among the top teams to watch this season. The women's drive to break the all-time winning record mirrors the drive of New York Life agents who continue the company's winning record of more than 165 years of delivering on its financial promises to Americans. We believe that New York Life agents achieve great success in similar ways the Huskies student athletes do: through commitment, training, support, dedication, teamwork and exemplary performance."
"The University of Connecticut is pleased to partner with New York Life, a company with an outstanding record of business achievement and millions of policyholders, many of whom we hope are fans of UConn Athletics," said Jeffrey A. Hathaway, UConn Director of Athletics. "We thank New York Life for its support of UConn Athletics and look forward to continuing to provide the very best to Huskie fans across the nation."
"New York Life is excited to be a part of the season-long excitement here in Connecticut as these two hometown teams strive for their championships," said Richard A. Hoberman, managing partner of the Southern Connecticut General Office of New York Life. "We look forward to watching these two teams who have track records of solid performances among the country's elite programs just as we at New York Life take great pride in our continued top performance in the insurance industry."
New York Life is the first and only sponsor to have its logo on the court during all basketball home games played at both the Gampel Pavilion and the XL Center. The company's ads will also appear on courtside and baseline signage boards. In addition, as a game day sponsor of the UConn Women's Basketball game on December 21, New York Life will have banners and a display presence at the main entrances to distribute information. During this game New York Life will also receive public address announcements, exposure on the video board and LED signage boards, and its logo on the front cover of the game day program. New York Life will also have television commercials airing during the broadcast which is tentatively scheduled to be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
The Huskies basketball season began in November and concludes in March with the Big East Championship Tournament. Many UConn men's and women's games are telecast nationally on ESPN and CBS. The men's games are also televised locally on SNY and the women's on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV). For the most up-to-date schedule of UConn games on television, visit www.uconnhuskies.com.
The partnership was negotiated by New York Life's media AOR, TargetCast tcm, a leading full-service, independent media agency providing total communications management to strong independent brands.
