Asiatic Lion
The Asiatic Lion, a sub-species of the Lion, once ranged from the Mediterranean to India, covering most of Southwest Asia where it was also known as the Persian Lion. The Mid-19th century saw a large-scale extinction of Lions, with the advent of firearms. Today, wild Asiatic Lions are less than 350 in number and restricted to the Gir National Park in Gujarat, India.
