New York Life extends its profound sympathies to the victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in the Bay of Bengal. The extent of this disaster defies imagination and, for a company with operations in two of the affected nations, Thailand and India, we are following the developments with a close eye.
It is with a sense of relief that the Company has not received any reports of its agents and employees or their immediate family members having lost their lives in the disaster. The Company's Thai and Indian joint ventures, Siam Commercial New York Life and Max New York Life, will incur some claims as a result of the disaster. These claims will be paid swiftly, in keeping with the Company's tradition of quick, compassionate action for our policyholders in times of need.
The Company's operations in Thailand and India are preparing relief efforts to the afflicted areas, with employees and agents leading the way. In India, Max New York Life will be making a delivery of food and supplies directly into the hardest hit regions of the country. Similarly, busloads of agent and employee volunteers in Thailand have made their way to Phuket to assist the survivors. To further maximize these initiatives, New York Life International plans to make significant donations to local relief efforts in Thailand and India.
In the United States, our employees and agents who wish to contribute to relief efforts have been encouraged to make donations through the International Federation of the Red Cross. If you would like to make a contribution to the relief efforts, please click on this link www.ifrc.org
