New York Life Foundation Awards $750,000 to Childhood Bereavement Organization

Twenty-One Providers Receive ‘Grief Reach’ Grants to Serve Youth Nationwide

NEW YORK, N.Y., September 7, 2012 – The New York Life Foundation today announced $750,000 in support to 21 organizations serving grieving children across the country. The grants will be given over a two-year period and range from $10,000 to $100,000. This is the second year of the Foundation’s Grief Reach Program where support is given to grief providers to expand their services to reach diverse and disadvantaged youth across the country.

The winning providers all responded to a request for proposals created through a partnership between the New York Life Foundation and the National Alliance for Grieving Children (NAGC).

“We’re pleased to extend our partnership with the New York Life Foundation and enable more underserved children and teens faced with the death of a loved one to have access to bereavement providers in their local community,” said Andy McNiel, executive director, NAGC. “The Grief Reach Program also increases awareness of the need for more education and services for those affected by loss.”

“We’re proud to extend our partnership with NAGC and provide hard-working local organizations with support through the Grief Reach grants,” said Chris Park, president of the New York Life Foundation. “The grants will enable providers across the country to expand their reach in their local communities and offer bereavement services to grieving youth and their families in areas that have been underserved.”
