NEW YORK, N.Y., July 31, 2006 — New York Life Insurance Company announced today that Dennis O'Brien has been appointed head of New York Life's Long Term Care Division in Austin, Texas. He reports to Robert L. Smith, senior vice president of Special Markets.

Mr. O'Brien joined New York Life as corporate vice president and actuary in the Long Term Care Division in 1996. He was promoted to vice president and actuary in 1999 and to first vice president and actuary in 2004. Prior to joining New York Life, Mr. O'Brien worked at Transport Life Insurance Company, Union Fidelity Life Insurance Company and Monarch Life Insurance Company. He has earned a FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation and MAAA (Member of the American Academy of Actuaries) designation.
Mr. O'Brien received a M.S. in physics from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and a B.S. in physics from The Cooper Union in New York City. He resides in Austin, Texas.
