NEW YORK, N.Y., October 10, 2006 — New York Life Insurance Company announced today that Sara Badler has been promoted to First Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, reporting to Senior Vice President and General Counsel Thomas English.
In addition, both Dennis Gagnon and Robert Rosh have been promoted to Vice President and Associate General Counsels. Mr. Gagnon reports to Vice President and Deputy General Counsel Rich Taigue and Mr. Rosh reports to First Vice President and Deputy General Counsel Sara Badler.
Ms. Badler is responsible for overseeing the legal work for the company's insurance products, regulatory exams, distribution, and mergers and acquisitions. She also oversees legal support for the Office of the Chief Investment Officer. Prior to joining New York Life, Ms. Badler worked for Morgan Stanley, where she was Executive Director responsible for all legal work associated with their U.S. equity mutual funds. She also has previous experience with Van Kampen Investments, Inc., Oppenheimer Management Corporation and Damson Oil Corporation, as well as prior service with New York Life from 1994-1999 in the asset management unit of the Office of the General Counsel.
Ms. Badler received a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University, a Juris Doctorate from the Fordham University School of Law, and a Master of Arts from Bank Street College of Education. She resides in New York City.
Mr. Gagnon is responsible for overseeing all intellectual property, commercial, commerce and procurement matters for New York Life. Mr. Gagnon joined New York Life in 1993 as an Assistant General Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel. In 1999 he assumed management responsibility for the unit responsible for patent, trademark and copyright matters, as well as legal support in connection with all commercial contracts and electronic commerce initiatives. In 2000, he was promoted to Associate General Counsel. In this capacity he directed the contracts and intellectual property unit. He also assumed responsibility for all legal issues related to the Company’s involvement with the Internet and e-Commerce development efforts. Prior to joining New York Life, Mr. Gagnon worked for The Home Insurance Company, as Assistant Vice President for contracts and intellectual property.
Mr. Gagnon received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University, a Juris Doctorate from the New York Law School. He and his wife, Virginia, reside in Ramsey, New Jersey.
Mr. Rosh is now responsible for managing the distribution unit of the law department, providing advice and counsel to the Agency Department and NYLIFE Securities. Mr. Rosh joined New York Life in 1995 as an Associate Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel. While working in the litigation unit, he was promoted to Assistant General Counsel in 1997 and Associate General Counsel in 2000. Prior to joining New York Life, Mr. Rosh was an associate at the law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton, clerked on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals for the Hon. Frank X. Altimari, and was an Assistant Professor of Government and International Relations at Clark University.
Mr. Rosh graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and International Relations from Clark University, a Juris Doctorate degree from Columbia University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from State University of New York-Binghamton. Mr. Rosh is an adjunct professor of insurance law at New York Law School, Benjamin Cardozo School of Law, and St. John’s Law School.
He and his wife, Beth I. Rosen, reside with their teenage son and daughter in Bayside Queens.
