Seizing our Destiny: A Video Documentary

This Bharat Yatra initiative is an ongoing effort to further enhance New York Life’s position as the company of the community. The fifteen youth we took to India have added the experiences they gathered during the trip to their characters. It exposed them to some of the real environmental problems that India faces today. We truly hope that some of these students will some day serve as ambassadors to conservation and make a positive impact in the lives of other people.

During the trip, a documentary was developed and will be aired on major Indian television stations in the United States.

In order to travel to India with the Bharat Yatra group, the students had to submit an essay consisting of approximately 1,500 words in English. The topic of the contest was “India’s Development: Challenges it may face in the economy, education, culture, environment and other important aspects of its daily life.”

A panel of three judges evaluated the essays.

The group departed from New York on July 20, 2008 and returned to US on August 4, 2008.

The documentary is an effort to underline the importance of wildlife conservation in the world in general, and in India in particular. If it is achieved, we believe that the purpose is served.
