NEW YORK, N.Y., NOVEMBER 8, 2007 – New York Life Insurance Company recently announced the winners of the company’s annual College Agent Intern Program Summer Sales Contest. The annual contest recognizes the Company’s college agents who have submitted the highest number of applications for the purchase of a New York Life Insurance product, including life insurance, annuities, and long-term care insurance from June 1 – September 30, 2007 in four geographic regions.
“It is quite an accomplishment to win this contest and New York Life is proud to recognize these college agents who are successfully building the foundation for their own financial services practice while still attending school full-time,” said Kirsten McKaskle, Director, College Recruiting, Agency Department, New York Life. “As a licensed member of New York Life’s sales team, these four winners are making a lasting impact on many lives already and, based on their success in the program, will continue to help many families set and reach their most important financial goals for years to come.”
The College Agent Program Summer Sales Contest winners are:
- The Pacific Zone and National winner, Calvin Whitehead is a junior attending Utah Valley State University in Utah and his hometown is Orem, Utah. As a National winner, Calvin Whitehead submitted the highest number of applications of all college agents across the U.S. Mr. Whitehead’s recruiter is Paul Hales, partner, Utah General Office, New York Life Insurance;
- The West Central Zone winner, Ryan Vavricka is a senior attending Fort Hayes State University in Kansas and his hometown is Hays, Kansas. Mr. Vavricka’s recruiter is Chris Jacoby, partner, Kansas General Office, New York Life Insurance; and
- The South Central Zone winner, Luis Corrales is a senior attending American University in Washington, D.C. and his hometown is Rockville, Maryland. Mr. Corrales’ recruiter is Carlos Vasquez, partner, Greater Washington General Office, New York Life Insurance Company;
- The Northeast Zone winner, Jermaine McIntosh is a senior attending University of Binghamton in Binghamton, New York and his hometown is Brooklyn, New York. Mr. McIntoshes’ recruiter is Otis Johnson, partner, Greater New York General Office.;
The College Agent Program was launched nationwide in 1998. Both undergraduate students and graduate students can apply. Students who are accepted obtain their agent license and begin working with clients on a part-time basis. They receive weekly performance reviews and guidance from their recruiter and one-on-one training with agent mentors while they undergo formalized classroom training. Unlike a traditional summer intern program, students in the College Agent Program are able to continue as interns as long as they are attending school full-time, often spending two years in the program.
