Are you a member of Council this year, and were you a member last year?
Are you a G.O. employee with at least one year of service?
If so, yes!

Is my nonprofit organization eligible?
Most 501 (C)(3) organizations are eligible!

What is the purpose of the grant?
The program provides charitable contributions for specific projects of nonprofit organizations that impact New York Life’s local communities and demonstrate New York Life’s commitment to being a socially responsible company.

What is the grant amount?
You can request a grant from $5,000 up to $25,000. Grants are awarded on a highly competitive basis.

What are some examples of eligible projects?

  • Projects in partnership with schools, social services agencies, etc. to support social causes and/or economic development.
  • Children/community safety days, which might include fingerprinting, bike safety, car seat education, etc.
  • Financial literacy/educational workshops.
  • Informational/educational campaigns, materials, and public service announcements focused on critical social issues.
  • Programs focused on providing basic social services – housing, food, etc.
  • Community “builds” such as Habitat for Humanity, playgrounds (KaBoom), etc.
  • What are some examples of ineligible organizations or programs?

  • New York Life direct sales or advertising
  • Religious organizations for religious purposes
  • Community and private foundations
  • Political groups
  • Local United Ways
  • Dinners and galas
  • Organizations representing a conflict of interest for the applicant or the Company
  • How are decisions made?
    An evaluation team of New York Life field managers, agents, and General Office and Home Office employees review applications and make recommendations. All applications are reviewed competitively and judged on their own merits.

    What are some aspects of a successful application?

  • High involvement by the New York Life applicant (business and personal involvement, long history of support)
  • Other involvement by New York Life staff (employees, agents, managing partners, etc.)
  • Program addresses a compelling need or is a unique funding opportunity
  • Will have an impact on the surrounding New York Life community
  • Program has opportunity to involve New York Life staff
  • A good opportunity for visibility for New York Life, you, and the organization
  • When can I apply?
    First round: 2/15 – 3/31; decisions announced in May
    Second round: 9/1 –10/15; decisions announced in December

    How do I get started?
    It is a two-part application; the New York Life person must complete the first section. Once that is complete, an E-mail will be sent to the nonprofit asking them to complete the second part of the application.

    If you have the tax ID number of your organization and the E-mail address of your contact at the organization,

  • Go to Agency Portal
  • Click on “Newsstand” under Resources
  • Then, click on New York Life Foundation
  • Go to the Community Impact Grants tab
  • Then, click URL link under “To Start a New Application”
  • Additional information? Please ensure that your nonprofit completes their part of the application by the deadline! Corporate Responsibility will contact you regarding the decision of the evaluation team and since you have the relationship with the organization, we ask that you notify your contact at the organization about our decision. Thank you!

    If your application is approved, the check will be mailed directly to you. Corporate Responsibility and Media Relations will work with you to publicize the grant.
