We Love What We Do And We Love To Give Back Through Community Involvement!
New York Life, in partnership with a national nonprofit called Developmental Studies Center (DSC), has created the New York Life After-School Initiative, designed to provide educational support for after-school programs, especially those that serve disadvantaged kids. DSC has created high quality, hands-on curriculum called KidzLit and KidzMath, which focuses on building youngsters’ reading and math skills, while also teaching them important lessons about caring and cooperating with each other – all through fun activities that make learning enjoyable.
New York Life’s commitment to the After-School Initiative makes it possible for DSC to offer discounts of up to 50% on the cost of the materials, as well as FREE professional development training for all providers at after-school sites who wish to participate. Due to financial constraints, many after-school programs are unable to offer this level of curriculum to young people or professional training for their staff. Thanks to the New York Life Initiative, it is now possible for providers to have both!
If you know of an organization that provides after-school care for 40 or more kids (schools, churches, Y’s, Boys and Girls Clubs, community centers, etc.) that might benefit from this kind of offer, please let us know or refer them to Kelly Stuart, the DSC project coordinator, at kelly_stuart@devstu.org for more information. We will be doing outreach in the Bay area to ensure that we serve as many kids as possible through this New York Life Initiative.
