NEW YORK, N.Y., June 15, 2009 – New York Life Insurance Company announced today that Michael Scovel, CLU, MSM, has been named senior vice president of the West Central Zone, one of the company’s four U.S. sales regions. He replaces Steve Ray, who recently retired after 37 years with New York Life.
In his new role, Mr. Scovel oversees the recruiting, training and developing of the Managing Partners who lead the 32 General Offices in the West Central Zone, which covers 13 states from Louisiana to North Dakota. He is also responsible for the sales production and overall supervision of the offices within the West Central Zone, which include more than 2,500 agents.
Mr. Scovel joined New York Life as an agent in Fresno, CA, in 1994. He was named sales manager in 1996 and became Managing Partner of the Stockton General Office in California in 1999. Under his leadership, the Stockton General Office was awarded 13 national awards in five years. In 2005, he was named Managing Partner of the Illinois Office, which exceeded the company’s retention objectives in every year he led it.
Mr. Scovel received his Bachelors of Science degree from California State University at Fresno and his Masters in Management from the American College. He resides in Frisco, Texas with his wife Patti and their three children.
