It’s never too early to lay your financial foundation.

Whether you’re just starting out or well on your way, laying your financial foundation may be simpler—and more affordable—than you think. Just ask NFL great Boomer Esiason, the record-setting NFL quarterback who’s now a sports commentator for The NFL Today on CBS, the Boomer & Carton show on WFAN Radio, and the CBS Sports Network. Having lost his mother when he was just seven, Boomer witnessed his father struggle not only with his grief, but with keeping finances, work, home, and family in balance. In retrospect, Boomer realized that life insurance could have made a big difference. “I was handed a life lesson early,” says Boomer. “It wasn’t the easiest life—my dad sacrificed a lot.”

But there’s a positive side to every story, and Boomer has now dedicated himself to educating others on the value of life insurance, including his own kids. Fresh out of college, his daughter Sydney is transitioning to the working world. “It’s important that she grasp the whole picture, including the financial responsibilities that are hers now,” Boomer says. “She needs to understand that life isn’t just about tomorrow, but about the years to come. And life insurance is an important part of that.”

Plus, when you have youth and good health on your side like Sydney, life insurance can be much more affordable than most people think. In fact, according to the Life Happens and LIMRA 2014 Insurance Barometer Study, people age 25 and younger overestimate the cost of life insurance dramatically, sometimes up by up to 10 times.

“I’m glad Sydney has embraced these new responsibilities, ” says Boomer, “and I’d encourage those just starting down the path of a career, marriage, or family to take the time to look into getting life insurance coverage, so they have that important financial foundation in place. ”
