AJ Rzad, CFA

Mr. Rzad is a Senior Managing Director and Head of Fixed Income Investors. In this role, Mr. Rzad oversees approximately $165 billion (as of December 31, 2020) in fixed income investments, including government and mortgage-backed securities, investment grade corporate bonds, high yield bonds, leveraged loans, and asset-backed securities. Mr. Rzad leads a seasoned team of investment professionals that manage fixed income portfolios for both New York Life’s General Account and third-party accounts. Mr. Rzad has more than 25 years of investment management and financial services experience. Mr. Rzad joined New York Life in 2000 and previously served as Head of the Investment Grade Credit team where he oversaw all investment activity related to the public investment grade asset class. Prior to joining New York Life, Mr. Rzad held various investment related positions at MetLife, Lehman Brothers, and PaineWebber. Mr. Rzad received a B.S. and an M.B.A from Cornell University and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

George Cherpelis

George Cherpelis is a Managing Director and the Head of the General Account Client Portfolio Management and Quantitative Research Team. Mr. Cherpelis joined the Firm in 2004 and is responsible for managing the investment activities of the NYL General Account. In addition, his team is responsible for working with the NYL business units to formulate investment strategies, implement asset/liability investment solutions, optimize their investment programs, supervise investment activity, and report investment results to NYL senior management. Previously, Mr. Cherpelis co-managed over $15 billion of third-party investment grade fixed income mandates. Prior to joining, he held a variety of different positions at Citigroup and Salomon Brothers relating to investment strategy formulation and trade idea generation for total return clients. Mr. Cherpelis received a BS from The City College of New York and two MS degrees from Manhattan College.

Robert Dial

Robert Dial is a Managing Director, Head of the High-Yield Credit team, and has over 25 years of investment experience. Mr. Dial oversees the investment activity related to all non-investment grade assets including floating rate loans, high-yield bonds, and emerging markets. He is also the lead portfolio manager on all floating rate loan mandates, including retail mutual funds, institutional separate accounts, and CLOs. Prior to joining the Firm in 2001, Mr. Dial worked extensively in the leveraged finance markets for Fleet Securities, Credit Lyonnais, and Chase Manhattan Bank. Mr. Dial has a BA from Yale University with an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Edward Fitzgerald, CFA

Edward Fitzgerald is a Managing Director and Head of the Structured Finance team. With more than 30 years of investment experience Mr. Fitzgerald oversees all investment activity related to treasuries and agencies, taxable municipals, agency and non-agency, RMBS/residential ABS, international RMBS, credit cards, autos/equipment leasing, and esoteric securities. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Fitzgerald worked for New York Life Insurance Company in a similar capacity. He was also an investment analyst and strategist for Prudential Securities. Mr. Fitzgerald has a BBA from Baruch College and an MBA from the Fordham University Graduate School of Business.

Martin King

Martin King is the Head of the Investment Credit team leading a team of 13 investment grade credit analysts and two sector specialists. Mr. King joined New York Life in 2006 and has over 25 years of investment experience. Previously, he served as a senior credit analyst on the Fixed Income Investors team leading the firm’s public investment grade investments for Industrial credits. In that role, he managed a team of two research professionals. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. King was a Director and credit analyst at Standard and Poor’s and a commercial loan officer for Nations Bank. Mr. King received a BS from the University of Florida and an MBA from Columbia University.

Kenneth Sommer

Mr. Sommer is the Head of the Investment Grade Portfolio Management team. With more than 15 years of investment experience, he is responsible for managing all multi-sector third-party fixed income portfolios, including retail mutual funds and institutional separate accounts. Previously, Mr. Sommer was a portfolio manager on the Investment Grade Portfolio Management team focused on the investment grade corporate sector. In addition to these responsibilities, Mr. Sommer was instrumental in sector allocations across our third-party portfolios. Prior to joining the firm in 2005, Mr. Sommer was an investment analyst at MetLife Investments. Mr. Sommer received a BS from Binghamton University, SUNY and an MBA from Fordham University.
