The Corporate Responsibility Department works with our Volunteer Coordinators from across the country to mobilize our workforce in a dedicated Month of Service every September. In 2019, 2,768 employees and agents from 90 offices provided 12,255 hours of service.
Season of Giving.
Each holiday season, our employees and agents participate in activities like “adopting” senior citizens and families, providing gifts and helping with holiday celebrations to brighten the season. In 2019, 1,784 employees and agents from 62 offices provided 5,573 hours of service.

in volunteer grants, (2019)
Through our Volunteers for Good initiative we give grants that support the volunteer efforts of teams of New York Life people. Projects like walk-a-thons, park beautifications, soup kitchens, and other group projects can receive up to $10,000 for their nonprofit partner.
Likewise, we give $500 and $1,000 grants that support a variety of local nonprofit organizations where New York Life agents and employees volunteer on a regular basis.
Agents and employees that present to K-12 schools on important bereavement resources earn $500 for that school to strive to become more grief-sensitive
Field employees and agents who serve as “champions” for a local nonprofit can apply for a competitive Community Impact Grant for their organization, ranging from $5,000 - $25,000.
Besides volunteering, our people also make philanthropic investments in their communities.
The Foundation and our Corporate Responsibility team are happy to support our agents and employees in the following ways:
Matching Gifts
To further enhance our commitment to our core focus areas, the Foundation supports many of the philanthropic endeavors of our agents and employees by matching their gifts to accredited schools, childhood bereavement organizations, and the Foundation’s educational grantees and their local affiliates, up to $5,000 per eligible person per calendar year.
Disaster Relief Grants
New York Life has been there for local communities since the company was founded in 1845. When disasters strike, New York Life and our people are there to help. Besides making grants to local communities where our customers and workforce are affected, we also match our workforce’s donations to designated aid organizations and provide disaster volunteer grants.
Giving Campaign
This annual three-week period of encouraging charity is a long-standing New York Life tradition. New York Life facilitates employees’ and agents’ charitable giving to most US-based nonprofit organizations by offering payroll and ledger deduction services and sending their donations directly to the charities of their choice, and matches gifts to charities whose missions fall into our focus areas. Since 1983, thousands of New York Life people have given millions of dollars to the charities of their choice through this program.
Volunteer Time Off
New York Life offers employees one full day off each year to volunteer with a school or charity that is personally meaningful to them.
New York Life Family Scholarships for Employees’ and Agents’ Children
The Foundation encourages education for all families, including our own. We offer two different scholarships for the college-bound children of our eligible workforce: The National Merit Scholarship (awarded based on PSAT scores) and the Scholarship America Scholarship (awarded on an application basis).
