New York Life recognized as one of America's best adoption-friendly workplaces.

Company named one of the best workplaces by Dave Thomas Foundation for adoption for the ninth consecutive year.

NEW YORK, N.Y., October 6, 2015—New York Life has once again been named to the 2015 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces List released by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. New York Life has qualified for this list for nine consecutive years.

New York Life’s adoption program currently offers up to a $10,000 reimbursement of eligible adoption expenses, as well as four weeks of paid parental leave for the parent who is the primary caregiver and one week paid parental leave for the secondary caregiver.

“Employers who offer adoption benefits understand that the initial needs of adoptive families are no different than families formed biologically. This helps to ensure that all families are treated equally by companies,” said Rita Soronen, President and CEO of the Foundation. “We are elated to see even more companies implement adoption-friendly and foster care-friendly benefits over the last year.”

“For more than 170 years, New York Life has always strived to enrich the lives of our customers, agents and employees through selfless acts of care and generosity. Offering comprehensive adoption benefits to those who want to provide a safe and loving home for a child is the right thing to do and illustrates the core values of our company,” said Katherine O’Brien, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, New York Life.

The ninth annual Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces list also helps increase foster care adoption awareness while celebrating businesses that support adoptive families. There are more than 100,000 children in the U.S. foster care system waiting to be adopted. Every year, more than 20,000 children in foster care turn 18 and age out of the system without families.
