New York Life donates $25,000 to flood relief effort in South Carolina.
NEW YORK, November 17, 2015—New York Life announced today it will donate $25,000 to aid flood relief efforts in South Carolina with a $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross designated for 2015 South Carolina flood relief and a $15,000 donation to Central Carolina Community Foundation for 2015 South Carolina flood relief.
For some South Carolina locations, the historic recent rainfall qualifies as a “1,000-year rain event”—meaning that in a given year there is a one-in-a-thousand chance of observing the amount of rainfall that affected those parts of the state. In addition to thousands of homes, businesses and schools being flooded, more than 300 roads and bridges were closed, resulting in the declaration of a state of emergency. Nineteen lives were lost due to the torrential rain.
“Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by the historic flooding that took a terrible toll on the residents of South Carolina,” said Mitch Kay, managing partner of New York Life’s Charlotte General Office. “On behalf of the local agents and staff at New York Life in the affected areas, we hope that our support will ease the pain of all who were impacted as they begin the clean-up and begin to rebuild their lives.”
