December 6, 2016—New York Life has once again received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality. Of the 887 businesses rated, New York Life joins the ranks of 516 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year.
“This achievement demonstrates our continued commitment to ensuring that New York Life continues to foster an environment where everyone is expected to bring their own cultural and intellectual perspectives to the table,” said Kathleen Navarro, Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer, New York Life. “We are once again proud to receive a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index. Diversity drives business strategies and results, and the success of our mission—to provide financial security and peace of mind for our policy owners—depends on it. Year after year, our clients have become increasingly diverse, our agent and employee workforce has kept pace, and we will continue in that forward moving direction because it makes us a more responsive organization, able to innovate and adapt to changing needs.”
“Even in the face of relentless attempts to undermine equality, America’s leading companies and law firms remain steadfast and committed to supporting and defending the rights and dignity of LGBTQ people,” said HRC President Chad Griffin.“The unprecedented expansion of inclusive workplaces across the country and around the globe not only reflects our progress, it helps drive it. As we enter a new chapter in our fight for equality, support from the business community will be more critical than ever to protect our historic advancements over the last decade and to continue to push equality forward for workers, customers, and families around the world.”
The 2017 CEI rated 1,043 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community. New York Life’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria resulted in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.
