NEW YORK, August 28, 2019 – New York Life today announced that Yie-Hsin Hung, CEO of New York Life Investment Management (NYLIM), received the 2019 Inspiring Across Generations Inspirational Leader Award by Ascend, the largest nonprofit Pan-Asian membership organization for business professionals. The Inspirational Leader Award marks the highest distinction recognizing a leader dedicated to promoting Pan-Asian leadership both in business and within the community.
Kathleen Navarro, Chief of Diversity and Inclusion of New York Life said: “Yie-Hsin’s dynamism as a leader is showcased not only through her ability to guide our company’s investment management business, but through her dedication and steadfast commitment to building a more diverse organization and financial services industry as a whole. This is a well-deserved recognition that underscores the multifaceted value that Yie-Hsin continues to bring to our organization.”
Jeff Chin, National Founder and President of Ascend, said: “Congratulations to Yie-Hsin for being awarded this year’s Ascend IAG Inspirational Leader Award. Yie-Hsin joins a select group of highly accomplished senior leaders who have received this award. Yie-Hsin inspires us every day by her achievements, leadership and dedication to the Pan-Asian community.”
Since Ms. Hung’s appointment as CEO of NYLIM in 2015, she has made diversity and inclusion a cornerstone of her leadership. She is the executive sponsor of New York Life‘s employee resource group the Asian Network Group, and founder of The Women’s Initiative Investments’ chapter—where she provides counsel on programs and strategies to increase diversity and inclusion. Ms. Hung partners with organizations that seek to support and empower underrepresented groups to effect change within our communities. This year she served as a mentor to a high-ranking executive from Sri Lanka as part of the Global Women’s Mentorship Program, a partnership run by Fortune and the U.S. State Department that connects international emerging female leaders with top female executives in the United States. Ms. Hung also serves on the McCormick School of Engineering’s Advisory Council and is dedicated to attracting more women to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields of study earlier in their academic lives. Through these efforts, Ms. Hung is helping to further advance an inclusive and supportive environment for all.
In addition to this recognition from Ascend, Ms. Hung has received a number of top-tier accolades in the past year. In September 2018, she was recognized by American Banker as one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Finance for the second consecutive year and was presented the 2018 North American Industry Leadership Award by 100 Women in Finance. In April of this year Ms. Hung was named as Person of the Year by Markets Media.
