In the next episode of our "Love Takes Action" series, we’re giving back to the selfless nonprofit heroes of the COVID-19 crises. For most of us, life slowed down after coronavirus hit. But some of us were called to action. As part of our “Love Takes Action” series, we are profiling individuals who stepped up when their communities were down.
Cedric Dew, an 18-year veteran of the YMCA, is the Executive Director of the Jamaica YMCA and lead for the Y’s transitional housing program for homeless residents. He maintains daily supplies and food deliveries for more than 1,000 homeless residents, liaises with a host of vendors to keep the facilities in good condition and most importantly, helps residents to stay and feel safe during a time of great uncertainty. Cedric’s unwavering commitment to determine the best possible solutions to help highly vulnerable individuals and at-risk communities resulted in a partnership with New York City Health + Hospitals Corporation (NYCHHC). His contribution to the collaboration led to providing beds at the YMCA to non-COVID patients allowing NYCHHC to provide more room for patients with the virus. The YMCA of Greater New York will receive $5,000 from New York Life in Cedric’s name. Cedric and five others representing nonprofits in communities across the country will receive a total of $30,000 from the company because they are putting love into action during the COVID-19 pandemic.
