Ted Mathas is Chairman and CEO of New York Life Insurance Company, the nation’s largest mutual life insurer with more than $700 billion in assets under management. The core business includes life insurance, retirement income, investment management, and long-term care insurance. New York Life is a leading provider of life insurance and annuities in the U.S.

Mr. Mathas has been a director of the company since July 2006. He became CEO on July 1, 2008 and was named Chairman on June 1, 2009.

Mr. Mathas currently serves as the immediate past chair on the board of the American Council of Life Insurers. He also sits on the boards of the American Museum of Natural History, the Partnership for New York City, NYDIG, and the Law School Foundation at the University of Virginia.

Mr. Mathas graduated with an A.B. from Stanford University, with distinction, in 1989. He received a J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1992, where he was a member of the Virginia Law Review and the Order of the Coif.
